Michelle let Buck cover one mare this year, and she decided to drop her baby in the wee dark hours of Tuesday morning, after Monday night's thunderstorms had used up all their rage.
As soon as we could stuff dinner in our faces and get the animals stuffed full of dinner, we climbed in the truck and went to pay a visit to the shiny new filly, who has yet to be named.
Begging your pardon for the cruddy cell phone photo quality, meet the cutest damned thing EVER:
Look at that sweet little star on her face...and her dorsal stripe! I'm guessing she'll be a buttermilk buckskin or a very light gray/silver grulla.
Dinner! Or Breakfast! Or something!
I'ze tired now. You go 'way so's I can sleep. ZZZZZZZZZ
Momma is a super sweet, balanced mare who is also stacked like a brick shithouse. She's my very favorite type of quarter horse - deep in the chest, big in the hip, short back, wide forehead, big eyes, little ears. Daddy is also the sire of my gelding Bugs, and he is a dark red buckskin. I'm hoping she gets Buck's size and Momma's personality. Except that means I'll never convince Michelle to sell her to me.
Baby horses are just about my favorite thing in the spring, closely followed by baby cows, baby ducks, chicks and...pretty much anything that's a baby. Except maybe baby spiders, I'm pretty sure I don't like those.
